For first responders and mental health organizations across Denver, the door at 2929 W 10th Avenue stays open around the clock, but the funding keeping it that way required a fresh vote from City Council.
Council members recently approved a $4.1 million contract extension for the Behavioral Health Solutions Center, a specialized facility that operates outside the general public's view to provide crisis care for referred patients.
The amendment, passed to extend operations through September 30, 2024, adds to the existing $16.1 million agreement with the Mental Health Center of Denver, which operates the center under the name WellPower. This funding ensures the 24/7 facility can continue accepting referrals from social workers and police officers without interruption. Unlike a standard clinic, the center does not accept walk-ins; access is strictly limited to individuals vetted by partner agencies or emergency services.
Located in the RiNo district (80205), the facility serves as a critical diversion point for those in crisis, aiming to connect patients with long-term treatment rather than cycling them through the jail system. The new fiscal commitment comes after the City's Health and Human Services Committee approved the filing on December 6, 2023, during the final weeks of the year.
While the contract itself is already finalized, residents can review the full legislative history and attend future oversight meetings at Denver City Hall. The last regularly scheduled Council meeting within the 30-day review period occurred on February 12, 2024, marking the end of the formal challenge window for this specific amendment.
