Shoppers World is replacing its entire fire safety infrastructure in a massive coordinated effort to modernize the retail hub.

The scale of the project means South Framingham residents and shoppers will see intense construction as crews overhaul the sprinkler and fire detection networks across the 208,000-square-foot property.

Municipal records show a staggering volume of activity at 1 Worcester Rd. After an initial burst of 42 permits in late April, the pace accelerated through May and June, with more than 100 total permits filed by mid-June. The work includes removing old suppression equipment and installing new alarm panels, smoke detectors, and sprinkler heads throughout the complex.

This level of permit density is rare for a single address. The project covers the entire plaza, upgrading shared infrastructure that serves multiple tenants simultaneously to meet current safety codes.

Construction crews are performing phased replacements over the coming months. This may result in temporary shutdowns of water or alarm systems within the plaza during installation windows.
